An engineering company has announced a patent pending technique that allows it to electroform intricate solid gold tools.

Abssac's electroforming technology could mean that gold could be used in a far wider range of industries, such as medical, industrial, and electrical applications.

Gold is particularly useful in invasive surgery as it is one of the least rejected metals from the body, which makes it ideal for medical tools and implants.

Its use in industry is also notable because it is one of the world's most electronically conductive metals, while it reflects up to 99 per cent of infra-red rays, but at the same time is capable of conducting heat.

Abssac hopes its technology will lead to greater availability of precision-made gold tools, so that greater advantage can be taken of its unique properties.
