Danish researchers from Aarhus University will be travelling to Utah to try out new technology for the aerial pinpointing of gold reserves.

When in Utah the SkyTEM Aps team responsible for the technology will scan the area for gold, nickel, zinc and precious stones, reports Denmark.dk.

SkyTEM Aps was set up by the researchers when they were developing ways to locate underground reserves of water.

Use of the technique has been widened to include mineral location and is made possible by equipment that measures the electrical resistance in different geographical layers from a low-flying aircraft.

As their equipment has very little noise, it delivers a precise resolution of both the upper and lower layers of the earth's surface.

Created in 2003, SkyTEM Aps uses a time domain transient electromagnetic (TDEM) method to carry out environmental investigations, mineral explorations and other resistivity studies.
