ITRI could make millions from nano-gold catalystWednesday, 18th April 2007 (3319 views) Profits relating to the introduction of nano-gold catalysts could run into the millions of dollars, according to Taiwan government-sponsored Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI).Collaboration between ITRI and Taiwan-based company Novax Material & Technology will last for ten years after a deal was signed and sealed between these two parties for the production of the new nano-gold catalysts. Specifically, the nano-gold catalyst will be used for products that filter carbon monoxide, such as gas masks and the cost of producing the catalyst is one-fifth cheaper than other "conventional materials", according to ITRI's deputy general director of material and chemical research laboratories Jassy Wang who spoke to DigiTimes.com. ITRI has already applied for a patent for its nano-gold catalyst in both the US and Taiwan and the resulting profits from the product could be as high as $10 million (£5 million). Established back in 1973 by the Taiwanese ministry of economic affairs, the ITRI is a non-profit organisation engaged in research and development work.
