Mass-production method developed for gold nanoparticles

Tuesday, 4th December 2007 (2939 views)

A new process has been developed which can mass-produce large quantities of gold nanoparticles for many commercial applications, it has emerged.

The technique, developed by American Elements in the United States, can create a number of surface-functionalised gold nanoparticles, which can be used in sensors, electronics and drug delivery systems, thanks to their catalytic and fluorescent properties.

Gold nanoparticles also have a variety of biomedical and bioscience applications, including allowing scientists to more easily track and destroy tumours within the human body.

Trademarked under the name Nanometal, the complete line of nanoparticles available from American Eagle includes dodecanethiol functionalised gold nanoparticles, nanopowders, nanorods, nanotubules, nanomental and nanocrystals.

Nanometal materials provided by the company can be found in a variety of products, including sunscreens and antibiotics.

The primary research and laboratory facilities at American Eagle are based in the United States, with warehousing and manufacturing operations in China, Brazil, Australia and Europe.
