A scientist involved in gold nanotechnology has been named as one of the top 25 most influential people in his field by RT Image magazine.

Kattesh Katti, a professor of radiology and physics at the University of Missouri, has been given the honour after leading a team that produced an environmentally-friendly way of creating gold nanoparticles.

He is the senior scientist for the institution's research reactor and also the director of its Cancer Nanotechnology Platform.

His team's new method of producing the tiny gold particles with no negative environmental impact was recently published in the Small journal.

"I'm very proud to be one among the list of 25 most influential scientists in the world, especially in the company of all time greats and former awardees," he remarked.

Meanwhile, chemists from Rice University have found a way to produce ultra-pure gold nanorods - a development that will help improve the effectiveness of several practices such as disease diagnosis and electronics.
