Engineering - Overview
In a number of high-tech applications, engineers need to specify
gold. This might, for example, be because they need a great
lubricating material and gold has been used as lubricant in
a number of engineering applications based on its resistance
to cold welding. In another field, gold–based brazing alloys
are used in industrial brazing, offering improved resistance
to oxidation, good mechanical properties of joints at elevated
temperatures, and excellent corrosion resistance in challenging
environments. It has also been used as a thin coating in building
glazing to reflect heat radiation, keeping buildings cool in
summer and warmer in winter.

![]() The blog that crosses the boundaries between research and the industrial application of gold technology ACS Fall meeting25 Aug, 2010 Inbetween meetings yesterday I managed to attend a few lectures here in (an extremely rainy!) Boston. Vince Rotello of UMass and Richard Lambert of Cambridge delivered the 2010 Langmuir lectures, both of which were excellent. Other interesting talks included Jin Zhang of UC Santa Cruz discussing his group’s work in the field of solar cell [...] |
