2006GOLD2006: New Industrial Applications for GoldLimerick, Ireland 3 – 6 September 2006
Delivering a keynote presentation at the conference were, among others, Solaris Nanosciences, a US-based company who are currently developing the use of anisotropic gold nanorod technology for improved Liquid Crystal Displays (LCDs). These nanoscale rod structures, or nanorods, when incorporated into liquid crystals are expected to improve viewing performance of displays in televisions, mobile phones and cameras. The same technology could help to restore the vision of people suffering from retinal diseases.
Sponsored by BASF, DMCC, Degussa, Project AuTEK, Rand Refinery, Metalor, 3M and Tanaka, this conference attracted over 300 participants from over 30 countries. Keynote speakers

![]() The blog that crosses the boundaries between research and the industrial application of gold technology ACS Fall meeting25 Aug, 2010 Inbetween meetings yesterday I managed to attend a few lectures here in (an extremely rainy!) Boston. Vince Rotello of UMass and Richard Lambert of Cambridge delivered the 2010 Langmuir lectures, both of which were excellent. Other interesting talks included Jin Zhang of UC Santa Cruz discussing his group’s work in the field of solar cell [...] |
