World Gold Council has a deep and broad understanding of the current and likely future industrial markets for gold. As such we are in a unique position to help facilitate and accelerate the commercialisation of promising new technologies and innovations. We do this through Innovation Partnerships and activities with early-stage ventures.
Innovation Partnerships
World Gold Council works directly with partner companies via our new Innovation Partnerships. These support research and development of new practical applications for the metal, drawing on a genuine commercial market requirement for innovation. Partner organisations include (but are not limited to) precious metal, chemical, electronics, materials and biomedical companies, ranging from small enterprises through to established international businesses. Interested companies are invited to contact World Gold Council for further details.
Please note – World Gold Council no longer provides support directly to universities through its former GROW Programme. However, researchers in academia with interesting ideas that might merit support are invited to contact us at the address below. Using its extensive network, World Gold Council may then be able to assist in matchmaking the research team with an appropriate industrial partner, potentially facilitating an Innovation Partnership.
During 2009-2010 World Gold Council is particularly interested in receiving proposals relating to the following areas:
Industrial catalysts (including catalysts for pollution control and chemical processing)
Biomedical applications (including medical diagnostics, therapeutics and materials)
Advanced electronics (including any technology or component likely to be used in next-generation devices)
Fuel cell systems (including applications both within the fuel cell structure and hydrogen processing infrastructure)
Optical materials (including nanotechnology, chemicals and coatings)
Early-stage ventures
World Gold Council’s unique understanding of emerging technologies focused around gold, can be accessed by the early stage venture community (funds, start-ups, investors, etc). Our goal is to support and accelerate the speed of emerging gold-based technologies to market.
World Gold Council will consider direct investments in appropriate ventures and is a key investor in Nanostellar Inc., the venture capital funded start-up company that is commercialising NS Gold™, the world’s first gold-containing automotive catalyst product.
